Surgical Abortion Procedure

A surgical abortion is a therapeutic aspiration procedure.

You will begin with a consultation, physical exam and ultrasound done by the doctor.

During your consultation your vitals, blood work and all your instructions for after care will be discussed.

During the procedure you will be offered local sedation. This is a medication that allows you to be awake but extremely relaxed.

You will be given a medication to numb the cervix.

A vacuum aspiration of the uterus will be performed. This procedure is also known as a D&C. This procedure is less than 10 minutes. Following the procedure you may stay as long as you need to recover. When you have sedation you will need a driver.

You will be given your antibiotics and pain medication before you leave the office.

You may be accompanied by a partner, spouse or parent during your visit.

There may be some restrictions.
