It should be taken as soon as possible or within 72 hours (3 days) of unprotected intercourse.
It is not effective if you’re already pregnant. If you have been tested positive for pregnancy do not use the emergency pill, it will not terminate existing pregnancy.
The emergency contraceptive pill is not effective if you have an ectopic pregnancy (tubal pregnancy). An ectopic pregnancy will cause severe abdominal pain and you should seek immediate medical help.
Side effects may include changes in your period, abdominal pain or cramps, nausea, dizziness or headaches.
